Obsessive-compulsive disorder

El Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder characterized by the presence of:

  1. Obsessions

Recurrent, persistent, and intrusive thoughts, images, or impulses that cause anxiety or distress. Common examples include:

Fear of contamination or germs.

Excessive doubts (e.g., "Did I lock the door?").

Aggressive or forbidden thoughts.

A need for symmetry or perfection.

  1. Compulsions

Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that a person feels driven to perform to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessions. Examples:

Washing hands repeatedly.

Checking things (doors, lights, keys) over and over again.

Counting, repeating words silently, arranging objects in a certain way.

What OCD is Not

It is not simply being a perfectionist or liking order. OCD significantly interferes with a person's daily life and well-being.
